The Nishna Heritage Museum brings the history of southwest Iowa to life today. Join us as our exhibits tell the story of those who settled in Oakland, Iowa, in the late 19th Century. The adjoining Nishna Heritage Garden offers a peaceful respite among public art displays as well as local plants, flowers and trees. The Nishna Heritage Museum and Garden is maintained and operated by the Oakland Historical Society. Admission is free. Donations are very much appreciated!

A Dream and a Rainbow

For more than a year, Helen Hummel has been dreaming of a new Rainbow Memorial, which would be placed in a corner of the Nishna Heritage Garden. She began fundraising, worked with a landscaper and commissioned a sculpture designed by Amy and Mark Mertes. The landscaper is ready and the sculpture is complete.
